A Weekly E-Letter From Our Minister - Rev. Rose-Hannah Gaskin
Tuesday, September 2
, 2008

Grace and Peace to you in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am not going to ask the question on everyone's lips:
"Where did the Summer of 2008 go?"
But it is on my mind. It was a busy summer for me.

For one thing, the Council continued to work away at implementation of some of the Visioning Team's recommendations. We hope to have a Long Range Planning Group to present to you before too long and a new governance structure.

I spent a lot of time with the Vancouver South Presbytery Executive as I assumed the position of Chairperson and began to re-organize some of the workings of that group.

At TUC, we had a Joint Needs Assessment Committee and a Joint Search Committee for the new position we hope to begin soon: Minister for Children and Families.
There was a weekly book study of Marcus Borg's book The Heart of Christianity; I wish more of you could have delighted in that.

We focused on the Book of Psalms and the Book of Revelation during worship these past two months, I learned much myself with that study. O yes, and we had three weddings too!

I moved in early July too, so that is always a big task. Then there were the Olympic games...Yes, it was indeed a full summer.

Now things are buzzing as we start into the new season, Mary Almond is moving on to a new job in Ladner and we will celebrate her ministry with us this coming Sunday after our congregational meeting. Please plan to be with this Sunday for the congregational meting to hear the results of the search Committee's work and to say 'fare thee well' to Mary.

I will be going on my vacation two weeks today so I have my suitcase on the floor ready to pack.
The 'pie ladies' are working hard and soon we'll be talking of Thanksgiving and the Fall Fair!
Good luck with the "back to school" routine whatever that looks like in your home.

Savour these last weeks of summer and maybe be more intentional about your practice of GRATITUDE.  A regular discipline of scripture and prayer and contemplation each day will help you stay grounded when the world around seems particularly frantic.
