A Weekly E-Letter From Our Minister -
Rev. Rose-Hannah Gaskin Grace and Peace to you this day. I wanted to share a wonderful experience I had Sunday. Sometimes God offers us a blessing we aren't expecting! Sometimes we are surprised by Joy! I was attending the covenanting service of a new minister at Grace Memorial United in Vancouver. They are engaged in a new and exciting ministry to discern God's call for them and for the United Church in East Vancouver. At that service were many people from my various ministries in Vancouver over the years. I felt surprised to see them there as part of that new ministry and experienced a deep and very moving sense of affirmation and confidence that God is indeed at work in the church, bringing to birth something new and exciting. So often I think, we are focused on what we want or on what is wrong that we miss the blessing and the new thing being offered to us. The Christian spiritual tradition, and father Thomas Keating's writing, teaches us that we must learn to recognize, receive and reflect the Holy which abounds in everyday life. All three aspects are vital: to recognize it, to open our hearts to receive it and then to reflect it so others can be nourished by it. This week, as you go through your "ordinary" daily tasks, KEEP THE EYES OF YOUR HEART OPEN THAT YOU TOO MIGHT BE BLESSED AND BE A BLESSING FOR OTHERS AROUND YOU. In Peace,
